Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has donated a package valued at over GH₵21,000 to the Edina Traditional Council in support of this year’s Bakatue Festival, scheduled for July 11.
The package comprises a cash sum of GH₵20,000, assorted drink hampers, and GH₵1,000 worth of airtime.
Presenting the items, Mr. Prince Owusu Nyarko, Senior Manager for Western and Central Region Sales at MTN’s Southwest Business District, underscored the company’s long-standing partnership with the Elmina community. He expressed pride in supporting a festival that not only preserves cultural heritage but also fosters community development and economic growth.
Drawing parallels between the festival’s unifying role and MTN’s mission of digital connectivity, Mr. Owusu Nyarko reaffirmed the company’s commitment to being a "force for good." He noted that the Bakatue Festival generates significant economic opportunities for various local stakeholders, including fishermen, traders, food vendors, artisans, transport operators, and accommodation providers.
"We reaffirm that our customers remain at the centre of our business, and we are committed to delivering excellent service and accessible products," he added.
Mr. Owusu Nyarko further commended the chiefs, the people of the Edina Traditional Area, and the Bakatue Festival Planning Committee for their continued support and partnership with MTN.
Receiving the package on behalf of the Traditional Council, Nana Kwamina Nguando IV, Chief of Simiw and Adontenhen of the Edina Traditional Area, expressed profound gratitude to the telecommunications firm.
"MTN has always been there for us, supporting our festival celebration through financing and branding the entire Elmina community to make the town more attractive," he said. "We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support MTN continues to give us."
