The Inspector‑General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team (SOT), working jointly with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, has arrested 24 suspects in a major intelligence‑led operation across several communities in the Ashanti Region.
The swoop, conducted in Kodie, Apagya, Dechemso, Old Tafo Ahenbronum, Ahodwo and Abofour, targeted suspected drug peddlers and other criminal networks.
In all, 21 males and 3 females were arrested. Among them is Richmond Okyere, 49, who was found with a pump‑action gun bearing serial number 21GN‑1918. The suspects range in age from 17 to 62.
Police retrieved a haul of items during the operation, including:
- Unregistered Toyota Highlander
- Unregistered Toyota Camry
- Mercedes‑Benz saloon car (AS 8724‑Z)
- Unregistered motorcycle
- Pump‑action gun & 7 RED‑STAR AAA cartridges
- Fireproof safe
- Suspected narcotics, including 489 pieces of dried leaves believed to be cannabis
- Parcels of suspected drugs
- Various quantities of Tramadol tablets
- Drug‑processing materials
- Femude drink bottles allegedly laced with narcotics
- Locally made drug‑infused toffees
- Electronics and cash believed to be drug proceeds
All suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Police say those found culpable will be arraigned after investigations conclude.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to sustained intelligence‑led operations to clamp down on drug‑related offences and other crimes, urging the public to support its work by providing credible information.
