Locally produced goods were the dominant source of inflationary pressure in Ghana in June 2026, accounting for nearly 87% of the country’s overall inflation, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by the Ghana Statistical Service.
The report showed that inflation for locally produced items rose to 6.7% in June from 5.0% in May, contributing 86.6% of headline inflation.
By contrast, inflation for imported items stood at 2.3%, accounting for just 13.4% of the overall inflation rate.
The findings suggest that domestic supply-side factors, rather than imported goods, were the primary drivers of price increases during the month.
According to the Statistical Service, “Locally produced items reached 6.7% and drove 86.6% of inflation; imported items rose 2.3%.”
Overall, Ghana’s year-on-year inflation rate increased to 5.3% in June, up from 3.7% in May, marking the third consecutive monthly increase after inflation bottomed out at 3.2% in March. However, the figure remains well below the 13.7% recorded in June last year.
The report also indicated that non-food items remained the biggest contributor to inflation, accounting for 68.5% of the headline rate, while food and non-alcoholic beverages contributed 31.5%. Services inflation stood at 9.4%, significantly higher than the 3.7% recorded for goods.
In its assessment of the June inflation figures, the Statistical Service noted that “Headline rose, but the pressure is concentrated, non-food and local items dominate the June picture.”
It further cautioned that although inflation remains relatively subdued compared to a year ago, “Disinflation remains intact, but June requires attention to non-food, services, and local supply dynamics.”
