It is certain that Benard Antwi-Bosiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of NPP (aka Chairman Wontumi), will one day be locked up just like Tsatsu Tsikata.
Just like Barabbas, the notorious bandit was set free in the Ancient Roman-occupied Palestine; Ken Ofori-Atta the former finance minister appears to have successfully relocated abroad for now.
‘Chairman Wontumi,’ whose brashness and feisty personality rub many the wrong way looks like the perfect political culprit.
Antwi-Bosiako, just like Tsikata before him, would become a sacrificial lamb for reasons both personal and political.
Personal Disdain
The profound animosity, disdain and thirst for vengeance between Wontumi and Mahama is second only to the historic feud between Kufuor and Tsatsu Tsikata.
While Ghanaian politics just like politics everywhere involves typical national rivalries, the conflict between Antwi-Bosiako and the Mahama family appears driven by deep-rooted personal animosity.
Both sides seem to share a uniquely deep personal hatred for each other.
Both sides seem to absolutely despise each other, whether you look at their shared interest in business (like mining) or politics.
Political Retribution
Ghanaians want retribution and the Mahama administration need a scapegoat. Rightly or wrongly, many citizens want widespread detentions among former government officials and those aligned with the NPP.
The administration of Akufo-Addo in its 2nd Term offended most Ghanaians through economic hardship, flagrant opulence, and a deeply elitist disregard for the people. For these among other crimes and infractions, the people are yearning to see ‘the blood flow;’
Rightly or wrongly, betting on Wontumi’s prison time looks like a safer wager than the Black Stars winning a single FIFA World-cup game in North America.
