A 26-year-old TikTok content creator, Akosua Serwaa Minat, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢1 million with two sureties after her arrest over alleged death threats directed at President John Dramani Mahama.
The court ruled that one of the sureties must be a civil servant earning not less than GH¢5,000 monthly. Minat is also required to deposit her passport or Ghana Card with the police and report regularly to investigators as the case progresses.
The accused—identified by police as Mahama Aminat and popularly known online as Akosua Serwaa Minat—was arrested by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) following the circulation of viral TikTok videos.
According to the police, the videos allegedly contained derogatory remarks about the President, as well as statements interpreted as threats to his life. Portions of the recordings were also said to encourage harm against President Mahama and his wife, Lordina Mahama.
Her arrest forms part of a broader security crackdown on the misuse of digital platforms for inciteful, abusive, or threatening content that could endanger public safety or undermine national security.
The videos, which spread widely across TikTok and other social media platforms, triggered public concern and calls for swift action from security agencies.
