Cycling's biggest event, Tour du Ghana, bounces back after three years' absence. It has been fixed for January 7-19, a day before the commencement of the 26 African Nations Cup.
About 70 local cyclists will tour the four match venues for Ghana 2008 — Accra, Tamale, Essipon and Kumasi — as a way of whipping up interest in the matches.
The organisers, the Ghana Cycling Association, told the Daily Graphic that the event would be restricted to only local cyclists to enable it determine who really was the king in the sport.
Promasidor, producers of Cowbell Milk, are the headline sponsors for the competition while a host of other companies, including Glico Insurance company Limited, Pens and Plastic, Wienco, Tigo and the French Embassy have all expressed interest.
Ten cycling clubs nationwide will be represented by seven cyclists each for the tour. All the national top stars, including Ayitey Akoto, Richard Mawuko and John Annang will be in action.
