Daniel Wadieh, captain of Ghana’s national Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) team, has arrived in Angola to represent the country at the 2026 All African Mixed Martial Arts Championship organised by the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF).
President of the Ghana Mixed Martial Arts Federation (GHAMMAF), Collins Zoiku, is confident the experienced fighter will make a strong impression and return home with a medal. He stressed that Wadieh has undergone solid preparation and is ready to raise Ghana’s flag high on the continental stage.
Based in the Netherlands, Wadieh has previously competed for Ghana in several international events, earning commendable results and building a reputation as one of the country’s standout MMA athletes.
Zoiku also highlighted the depth of talent within Ghana, noting that many young athletes possess the potential to excel if given the right guidance and support. He described the future of the sport as bright, particularly with increased investment in youth development.
Wadieh is guided by Netherlands-based coaches Frans Djimtche and Emirhan Bulduk, who have played key roles in his development and readiness for the championship.
The GHAMMAF president further called for stronger institutional backing for MMA, urging stakeholders to support the sport in a manner similar to football and athletics. According to him, MMA continues to grow in popularity and holds significant promise for Ghana on the global stage.
He added that several Ghanaian fighters based in Europe and the United States could bolster the national team if given the opportunity.
Zoiku concluded by wishing Wadieh success in Angola and called on Ghanaians to rally behind the fighter as he competes for national pride.
