Government has begun a one-month fuel subsidy intervention today, April 16, to cushion Ghanaians against rising fuel prices.
The move follows recent increases in global oil prices linked to Middle East tensions, which have disrupted supply chains and driven up crude prices on the international market.
Under the intervention, government will absorb GH¢2.00 per litre on diesel and GH¢0.36 per litre on petrol.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 15, and signed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
The statement said the measure is expected to ease pressure on households, transport operators, and businesses affected by recent fuel price hikes.
“Effective April 16, 2026, which is the next pricing window, the Government will absorb GH¢2.00 per litre on diesel and GH¢0.36 per litre on petrol,” the statement said.
It added that the intervention, approved by Cabinet, is a response to rising petroleum prices on the international market.
Government said it will monitor global oil trends over the one-month period and assess further policy measures if necessary.
