The government has announced a one month intervention to cushion Ghanaians against rising fuel prices.
It has absorbed GHS2 litre on diesel and GHS0.36 per litre on petrol effective Thursday, April 16.
The measure comes amid recent increases in global oil prices, driven by geopolitical tensions that have disrupted supply chains and pushed up crude oil prices on the international market.
This was communicated in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 15, and signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
The statement noted that the measure is expected to ease pressure on households, transport operators, and businesses that have been affected by successive fuel price adjustments in recent weeks.
“Effective April 16, 2026, which is the next pricing window, the Government will absorb GH¢2.00 per litre on diesel and GH¢0.36 per litre on petrol,” the statement read in part.
“The measure, approved by Cabinet, is in response to rising prices of petroleum products on the international market, which have significantly impacted ex-pump prices in Ghana,” it added.
The statement further indicated that the intervention will last for one month, during which government will monitor global oil market trends and assess further policy responses.
