Sedina Tamakloe can appeal jail term after extradition — NDC’s Adawudu

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) national communication team, Victor Kwadjoga Adawudu, has stated that former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu, still has the legal right to appeal her conviction even after her extradition process is completed.

His comments follow a United States District Court in Nevada’s decision certifying her extradition to Ghana, where she is expected to serve a 10-year sentence for multiple offences.

Ms. Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in Ghana in April 2024 and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for causing financial loss to the state, stealing, conspiracy, money laundering and procurement breaches.

She is reported to have left Ghana while on permission to travel abroad for medical treatment, before the conclusion of her trial.

The extradition process now awaits a final decision by the U.S. Secretary of State.

Reacting to the development on Accra-based TV3’s New Day on Tuesday, April 14, Adawudu said the legal process is still ongoing and not yet finalised.

“As it is now, we cannot say that they have completed. It is a process,” he stated.

He explained that once the extradition is concluded, the necessary arrangements for her transfer to Ghana will be communicated through the appropriate channels.

“The US Justice Department will now do the details… then that information will relate to the Attorney General in Ghana,” he added.

Adawudu further noted that the conviction does not close the door on legal remedies, stressing that the former MASLOC boss can still challenge aspects of the case upon her return.
