Pull Up Your Sagging Pant,please!

Negative attitude doesn’t only affect one’s psyche ,but one’s ability to progress.

The Ghanaian culture is being hijacked by half- assed youths. But no one is saying a word about it---welcome to the newly-found Ghanaian empty civilization.

What happened to our decent dress code that we were used to back in our school days?

In case you have been living in a cave ,somewhere in Afghanistan for the past decades; a sagging pant is a manner of dressing when our youths purposely and naively pull their pants way down to expose their (sometimes sun- tanned and unattractive) underwears and body parts.

Yes,you may vehemently disagree with me, but there is no denying that we consume a large amount of imported cultures ,wantonly without any qualm,in the name of personal freedom.

The fact of the matter is that this particular dysfunctional behaviour, which originated from the U.S prison system in the late eighties is trending like a fire in Ghana by our male youth—big time--- who can not envision a future for themselves in the new world economic order.

This matter of dressing that is more associated with the black urban young males in the States’ housing projects( euphemism for “ghettos”)--some of the meanest ,most destitute, and most dangerous part of the hood;is equivalent of a hard-core, crime infested and infected poorest neighbourhood in Ghana.

They top it off with oversized hoodies, swallowing their bodies up;and wear too large baseball caps—it’s a gang culture to disguise their identities from CCTV and police surveillance cameras.

Well,it’s certainly not exclusive to the black population anymore,once the MTV and other culture shaping TV outlets in the States began to retail it to the mainstream culture.

This is the lifestyle Ghanaian youths are very busy emulating and consuming wantonly like lollipops—thanks to the Ghanaian toothless social institutions and media!

The bottomline is,a musician or celebrity imitating this ex -convicts’ dress code is crazy ,and it should not be given so much media attention to role – modelling our innocent kids.

This equally applies to our young ladies. Some of them dress in such a way that it leaves too little to one’s imagination.

I ain’t here to advocate any religious dress code ,neither am I suggesting the talibanization of our society to any rigid dress code. But enough is enough.

Yes,it is not easy to convince them that they can’t wear sagging pants and being employed by any reputable company—or accomplish any worthwhile task while having to use one hand to attempt to keep your pant from falling off your ass.

When young men hang on sagging pant and crotch -grabbing mannerisms in the street, they may be hanging in tough with their homies but they’re handicapping themselves in the game of life.

For it’s time for our youths ( especially the men)to grow up and men up ...and learn that ( at least ,grown -ass men ) don’t walk around with their butts hanging out in public, unless they’re ready to have very serious business in the bathroom.Yak, Talfiakwa !!
