By-election: I’ll win Ayawaso East and prove Musah Dankwa wrong — NPP’s Ali Yusif

New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Ali Yusif, says he is confident of victory despite a projection by research firm Global InfoAnalytics that places him behind his main contender.

About 49,000 voters are expected to cast their ballots in the March 3 poll to fill the vacancy created by the death of the area’s MP, Naser Toure Mahama.

Five candidates are contesting the seat, including Baba Jamal for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Ali Yusif for the NPP.

Global InfoAnalytics, led by Musah Dankwa, has projected a 75 per cent win for the NDC candidate, with the NPP trailing at about 20 per cent.

However, speaking to journalists after casting his vote, Ali Yusif rejected the poll findings.

“Let’s wait till 5 PM. What is happening currently on the grounds will prove that his data is clearly wrong,” he said.

He stressed that surveys do not always reflect the true mood of voters and expressed confidence that the results would vindicate his campaign.

Ali Yusif maintained that the electorate is poised for what he described as a new direction for the constituency.
