Ayawaso East by-election: ‘I’ve advised my supporters to be law-abiding’ — Baba Jamal

National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Jamal, says he has directed his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding throughout the voting process.

The by-election follows the death of the area’s Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, on January 4, 2026.

Five candidates are contesting the vacant seat, including Baba Jamal for the NDC and Baba Ali Yusif for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to journalists after casting his vote at the Alhaji Iddrisu House 2 polling station on Tuesday, March 3, Baba Jamal said he had taken steps to ensure peace among his followers.

“I’ve already advised all my supporters to stay calm and also be law-abiding. We want to see a peaceful process. We want to see a peaceful election,” he stated.

He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the polls so far, noting that he had toured several voting centres.

“So far, I’ve been to several polling stations. The process has been very, very peaceful. We commend the police for taking good care of the process,” he added.

The NDC candidate encouraged constituents to come out in their numbers to vote and be part of the decision-making process in the constituency.
