Don’t make the mistake of abandoning ORAL — Solomon Owusu to NDC gov’t

The National Communications Director of the United Party, Solomon Owusu, has cautioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration not to abandon its Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) anti-corruption drive.

ORAL was a key campaign promise of the NDC ahead of the 2024 general elections.

It was presented as a mechanism to retrieve alleged looted state funds and prosecute corrupt public officials, particularly from the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

The initiative was expected to signal a tough stance on corruption and reinforce accountability in public office.

However, speaking on Accra-based TV3’s New Day show on Thursday, February 26, Mr. Owusu said the apparent delay in prosecutions and public updates is raising concerns.

“The last thing this administration wants is to be seen to abandon Operation Recover All Loot. Make no mistake, people are even beginning to disrespect the President,” he stated.

He questioned the pace of action from key institutions, including the Attorney General’s Department and the Auditor-General’s office, particularly regarding previously announced forensic audits and corruption-related investigations.

“You have been in government for one year. Why are you not going after those who committed the offences? After a year, what is happening with all the criminalities that happened?” he asked.

Mr. Owusu argued that failure to act decisively could erode public confidence in the anti-corruption agenda and embolden individuals accused of wrongdoing.

He urged the government to pursue investigations transparently and ensure that anyone found culpable, regardless of political affiliation, is held accountable under the law.
