Eight basic schools within the Suhum North Circuit of the Suhum Municipality participated in this year’s Suhum North Circuit KG Sports Competition, an initiative designed to promote physical development and identify sporting talents among kindergarten pupils.
The event brought together young learners in a colourful display of enthusiasm and teamwork, featuring activities including sack races, a 500 metre race, football, a how to dress to school contest, and other engaging sporting games aimed at building confidence and cooperation.
Speaking at the programme, Madam Vivian Ansah, KG Municipal Coordinator for the Suhum Municipality, stressed that education must extend beyond classroom instruction.
She noted that children need opportunities to participate in physical and extracurricular activities to support their holistic growth and development.
According to her, many pupils possess unique talents that should be nurtured rather than suppressed. She urged parents to encourage their children to take part in school activities to help develop their abilities.
Madam Ansah also appealed to the Municipal Chief Executive, the Member of Parliament, and the government to provide sporting equipment such as footballs, jerseys, and other logistics to strengthen future competitions.
Mr Asumaku Paul, Suhum North Circuit Sports Vice Chairman, also called on corporate organisations and individuals to support the initiative. He explained that the competition is held annually and continues to uncover hidden talents among pupils in the circuit.
He expressed optimism that with adequate support, children identified through such events could grow into accomplished sports personalities who would make the nation proud.
Organisers commended the Suhum Municipal Chief Executive for her support, which they said played a key role in the success of this year’s event.
The Suhum North Circuit KG Sports Competition remains a major annual activity in the circuit, providing a platform for young learners to compete, socialise, and develop skills beyond the academic environment.
