Press Statement Northern NPP Concerned Youth Group condemns the unlawful arrest and detention of Kofi Ofosu Nkansah
WED, 11 FEB 2026

We, the leadership of Northern NPP Concerned Youth Group condemns in no uncertain terms the arrest and unlawful detention of Mr. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah.

Indeed, Ghana is governed by laws, and this needless arrest and detention of Mr. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah by NIB is an affront to the rule of law of the Country.

As we all know, Mr Kofi Ofosu Nkansah was invited by the NIB to answer questions on statements he made on corruption that engulfed scholarship in the Country.

After honouring the invitation extended to him he was released for cooperating with the NIB on the matter of the scholarship.

However, the NIB besieged and ransacked his home and arrested him again on the same matter which we have condemned for abusing his fundamental human rights.

For the purpose of clarity, similar allegations were made by an NDC MP Hon. Joseph Azumah on allegations of payment for SHS placement.

In addition, the NDC Northern Regional Deputy Treasurer Suhuyini Yaalana also publicly made a sale of Hajj protocol tickets and spoke about corruption on the radio.

Unfortunately, these two notable NDC members were never invited to substantiate their allegations by the NIB and the government led by President Mahama.

For fairness's sake, we expected the NIB to act professionally in the line of duty but it appears they are too partisan in their operations in the Country.

This level of selective treatment and justice by NIB and government is uncalled for and condemnable, to say the least in a Country governed by laws.

Essentially, we have taken a brazing culture of silence and selective application of our laws as worrying and it dents the image of Ghana as a country with the beacon of democracy in Africa.

Under normal circumstances, why are NDC members left off the hook when they make allegations of corruption in public without questioning?

Furthermore, why are NPP members treated inhumanely as if we have laws that are selective in dealing with them in the Country?

Given the above worrying phenomenon, we call on President Mahama to act swiftly to address this selective justice that has been carried out by the NIB.

We also call on the CSOs and other relevant stakeholders in the Country to join us in condemning this incessant act of a culture of silence and misuse of power by the government.

Finally, this is not the reset agenda President Mahama promised us and if this fester it will go a long way to undermine our democratic principles and values anchored on fairness and justice.

Thank you.
