The Upper East Regional Police Command has initiated a full-scale investigation following a fatal armed robbery on the Zebilla–Widnaba road in the Bawku Division.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred on Sunday, February 8, 2026, when two police officers traveling towards Zebilla encountered the robbery in progress. The suspects reportedly opened fire, critically injuring one officer.
The wounded officer was immediately transported to Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
Police authorities have launched a special operation to track, apprehend, and bring the perpetrators to justice, vowing that those responsible will face the full weight of the law.
