Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya, whose real name is Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon, has revealed why he avoids brand partnerships despite the potential for extra income.
The content creator, known for his travel and lifestyle videos, said his priority is to remain authentic and maintain full control over his content.
He explained that working with brands could restrict his creative freedom and alter how he presents himself to his audience.
Speaking in an interview with Bola Ray on the Starr Chat show on Thursday, January 29, Wode Maya said he prefers to earn from platforms like YouTube and Facebook, where he can post freely and authentically.
“I’m very scared working with brands, because a brand will filter everything you’re doing. I want to wear my boxer shorts and do a video, and no one should tell me why,” he said.
Wode Maya also shared insights into how even small posts, like photos, can generate income if managed professionally.
He cited a recent example where a single photo on Facebook earned him $121, noting that posting multiple photos daily can add up significantly.
“If I post a picture, the photo alone can make money. Imagine if I have 10 photos in a day — that’s multiplied income, professionally managed,” he explained.
He added, “Some months, I make about $100,000. Sometimes, $50,000 monthly is assured. Social media, if you use it wisely, can change everything.”
