Nobody can deport Ken Ofori-Atta – Lawyer Frank Davies dares

A member of the legal team of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has dismissed claims that his client could be deported from the United States following his arrest by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Speaking on Good Afternoon on Metro TV, lawyer Frank Davies insisted that there is no basis for the deportation of the former Finance Minister. “Nobody can deport Ken Ofori-Atta,” he stated during an interview with host Desmond Okraku Mantey.

Mr Davies explained that Mr Ofori-Atta had applied for an extension of his stay in the United States due to medical reasons. According to him, the former minister is currently undergoing medical treatment and acted lawfully by seeking to regularise his immigration status.

“Ken thought it wise to seek extension of his stay because he is seeking medical attention in the US,” the lawyer explained, adding that the process is ongoing.

He noted that once the necessary procedures are completed, the outcome of the matter will be made public. “He is going through the process and when he is done, we will all know the outcome,” Mr Davies said.

The comments follow reports that the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement had detained Mr Ofori-Atta over issues relating to the status of his stay in the country.

In a public notice issued by his lawyers, Menka-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline and Partners, it was confirmed that the former Finance Minister had been engaged by ICE on immigration-related matters.

The statement added that Mr Ofori-Atta’s U.S. legal team is in active contact with ICE and is confident that the issue will be resolved expeditiously, urging the public to remain calm as due process takes its course.
