The Minority in Parliament has taken aim at President John Dramani Mahama’s first year in office, accusing his administration of what it describes as a relapse into “dangerous economic experiments, lawless governance, and predatory partisanship.”

Speaking to the Parliamentary Press Corps on Thursday at Parliament House in Accra, Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei outlined a series of concerns, including an alleged $214 million loss linked to the Gold for Reserves programme, neglect of farmers, and a worsening security environment.

Madam Appiagyei said the Gold for Reserves initiative, which was introduced under the previous NPP administration, had suffered significant losses since the change of government.

“Farmers are struggling with bumper harvests and lack of support, while the government celebrates cedi appreciation,” she stated.

On matters of security, the Asokwa Member of Parliament claimed the country was experiencing rising insecurity, pointing to what she described as increases in armed robbery, murder, and kidnapping cases.

“Unemployment remains a major concern, with over a million young people jobless or underemployed,” she added.

The Minority has therefore called for parliamentary investigations into the Gold for Reserves programme and is demanding accountability for the reported financial losses.

President Mahama on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, marked one year in office after officially assuming the presidency, beginning his second term following a decisive victory in the 2024 general elections.
