The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has announced the commencement of the 99th Cycle Cash Grant payment under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme, with a total release of GH¢139,329,463.37 to support vulnerable households across the country.
According to the Minister, the nationwide disbursement will begin on Monday, 22nd December 2025, benefiting approximately 350,580 households, representing about 1.5 million Ghanaians. She noted that the substantial amount released underscores government’s commitment to strengthening social protection systems and supporting the extremely poor and vulnerable.
Dr. Lartey explained that the LEAP Programme remains a cornerstone of Ghana’s social protection architecture and a key pillar of the Government’s Reset Agenda, which prioritises responsiveness, reliability, and people-centred development. The timely release of over GH¢139 million, she said, reflects the government’s resolve to ensure regular and sustained support for beneficiary households.
Under the 99th cycle, beneficiary households will receive bi-monthly grants structured as follows:
• GH¢320 for households with one eligible member
• GH¢380 for households with two eligible members
• GH¢440 for households with three eligible members
• GH¢530 for households with four or more eligible members
The Minister emphasised that the timing of the disbursement is particularly significant, as it coincides with the Christmas season, a period that places additional financial pressure on low-income households. She said the funds are intended to help beneficiaries meet basic needs, celebrate the festive season with dignity, and enter the New Year with renewed hope.
Looking ahead, Dr. Lartey disclosed that government has allocated a historic GH¢1.1 billion to the LEAP Programme for the coming period—the highest allocation since the programme began. This, she noted, reflects the strong commitment of President John Dramani Mahama to protecting the vulnerable and building a more inclusive society.
She further announced that in 2026, LEAP coverage will be expanded to 400,000 households nationwide, significantly increasing the programme’s reach. The Minister called on traditional leaders, religious bodies, civil society organisations, Members of Parliament, and other stakeholders to support the expansion agenda.
Dr. Lartey commended staff of the Ministry, the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, community focal persons, payment service providers, and development partners for their dedication and hard work in ensuring the effective delivery of the programme.
In concluding, the Minister stated that the release of GH¢139.33 million under the 99th cycle goes beyond cash transfers, describing it as a demonstration of solidarity, dignity, and hope from government to the people of Ghana. She extended Christmas and New Year greetings to all Ghanaians, especially LEAP beneficiaries.
