The Implication of Floating and NDC Voters' Choice of Ken over Dr. Bawumia in Latest Polls

The Implication of Floating and NDC Voters Choice of Ken over Dr. Bawumia in Latest Polls

Traditional and social media have been blazing with the latest social media polls on the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) presidential primaries by the Global InfoAnalytics. This follows a disclosure by Mr. Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics that majority of floating voters and National Democratic Congress (NDC) voters prefer Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to the renowned pollster, 39% of NDC voters prefer Ken while 33% of this category of voters support Dr. Bawumia. Similarly, Ken attracts 38% of floating voters while Dr. Bawumia is trailing with 32%.

What began as a brief announcement on the Facebook page of the Executive Director on 6th December 2025 has since gained traction in the media space with majority of the media outlets in the country reporting on it. Perhaps for the purpose of directing traffic to their websites, almost all the media houses chose a headline and an angle that distort the actual implication of the polls.

The media houses reported the news with funny headlines like "NDC Supporters Rooting for Kennedy Agyapong in NPP Primaries -- Global InfoAnalytics." Such a headline creates a negative impression on the minds of die-hard NPP supporters -- they may be deceived to think the NDC supporters are rooting for Ken because he is a walk over for them.

If the media houses meant well, they would have taken their angles from the part of the polls which says floating voters also prefer Ken to Dr. Bawumia. They obviously did not give that part of the report the attention it deserves because they have an interest to protect.

As a political observer, I find the polls favourable to Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and his team. Floating voters decide the outcome of elections. So, for them to choose the business mogul, Philanthropist and former lawmaker over Dr. Bawumia is a scientific confirmation of the claim that Ghanaians are calling for Ken.

The endorsement by the NDC voters is also a good news. Definitely, Global InfoAnalytics did not ask the respondents to choose the candidate they think they can easily win against in an election. They would sound mischievous if they did that and no sensible respondent would waste their time on pollsters. The choice of Ken by the NDC voters means in the unlikely event that their party is rejected, which person do they think can lead the country better and they said Ken, which is an obvious truth.

Though the polls is good news for Ken and his team, they have to explain it well to the NPP delegates lest Dr. Bawumia and his team employ the media to confuse the delegates.
