Fisheries Ministry receives donations ahead of 2025 National Farmers’ Day

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Madam Emelia Arthur, has received significant donations from key institutions and agribusiness partners ahead of the 2025 National Farmers’ Day celebration.

This is scheduled to take place in the Volta Region on Friday, December 5, 2025.

The donations, presented at a brief ceremony in Accra on Friday, reflect a strong national commitment to food security, sustainable fisheries, and agricultural modernization.

The contributions included cash, machinery, fish feed, and essential fishing equipment aimed at boosting production and improving livelihoods across the fisheries value chain.

The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), the headline sponsor of Farmers’ Day, donated GH¢200,000 in support of the 2025 Best National Fisherman and reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the Ministry to improve financial access, strengthen livelihoods, and expand opportunities for coastal and inland fishing communities.

Japan Motors Limited also presented outboard motors, motorcycles, and a water pump, describing the gesture as part of the company’s long-standing commitment to supporting farmers nationwide.

In addition, Raanan Fish Feed Limited donated 30 bags of fish feed, while Beacon Fish Feed contributed 100 bags, underscoring the essential role of feed supply in sustaining fish farming operations.

CCT Group Limited supported the Ministry with fishing nets, ropes, and other inputs valued at GH¢110,472 and assured the Minister of its continued partnership with both the Ministry and fisherfolk across the country.

The Minister expressed profound gratitude to the donors, noting that the support would significantly enhance operations within the sector.

“We thank you, and we are happy for these presentations, and we promise to use them for the purpose for which they were brought,” she said.

Madam Arthur emphasized that fisherfolk remain central to Ghana’s fisheries value chain and livelihood economy.

She added that such corporate support reinforces national efforts toward sustainable fisheries development and improved economic outcomes for fishing communities nationwide.
