Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday officially launched the book, “The Republic: A Professional Journey, Ghana's Cybersecurity and The Making of a Role Model Country.”
The Republic was authored by Dr Albert Antwi-Boasiako, the Former Director-General of the Cyber Security Authority, and the founder of Ghana's cybersecurity institution, e-Crime Bureau.
The book chronicles nearly 15 years of Dr Antwi-Boasiako's pioneering work in Ghana's cybersecurity landscape, spanning his contributions across both the private and public sectors.
It gives readers an in-depth insight into Ghana's cybersecurity journey from the formative stage to a tier-1, role model country (from 32.6 pr cent in 2017 to 99.27 per cent in 2024 according to the ITU's Global Cybersecurity Index).
Former President Akufo-Addo in a speech expressed gratitude to the author of the book and all who had contributed towards the notable achievement and advancement of cybersecurity in Ghana.
“Your unwavering dedication, expertise, and collaborative spirit have been instrumental in positioning Ghana as a beacon of excellence and innovation in cybersecurity on the continent and beyond.”
He said to keep Ghana on the global stage there was the need for coordinated leadership, guidance, ministerial oversight, and technical expertise working in harmony with partners for the progress of the nation.
“Ghana cannot afford to delay since neighbouring countries are aggressively competing with us in the same space for investment.”
He encouraged the public to read the book as it was a source of inspiration for future generation, especially those who aspired to serve in the public service.
The book is structured in five parts with behind-the-scenes insights, policy decisions, strategies, the collective sacrifices that shaped Ghana's cybersecurity ecosystem and the interplay between personal convictions and public sector leadership.
“The Republic represents a historical narrative, chronicling the foundations, turning points, challenges and collaborative efforts that propelled Ghana to global recognition in cybersecurity.
It offers valuable lessons for institutional building and public sector leadership.
Other personalities who congratulated Dr Antwi-Boasiako in his achievements were Mr C.K. Btuce, Chief Executive Officer, Innovare, and Madam Laura Ranalli, Italian Ambassador to Ghana.
The book was reviewed by Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, Justice of the Court of Appeal.
