On Saturday, January 31, 2026, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will face a critical decision, selecting the leader who will guide the party into the 2028 general elections. Five candidates have cleared the vetting process, and all are presenting their cases to the delegates. Among them, one candidate stands out clearly: Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Every delegate should see it as both a political and moral duty to give him the mandate to lead.

Dr. Bawumia is neither an outsider nor a newcomer to the NPP. He is a proven and trusted asset, having risen from public service to the high office of Vice President. His journey demonstrates loyalty, resilience, and vision. He has served not for personal gain but for the enduring progress of the party and the nation.

Bawumia signifies a new chapter in Ghanaian politics. Although his early influence in the 2008 elections was limited, his political and intellectual strength became evident by 2012. Through his data-driven critiques and lectures, he elevated the level of national discourse. His careful management of the 2012 election petition, the “pink sheets era, marked the beginning of politics rooted in evidence, clarity, and ideas rather than insults and propaganda.

From 2013 to 2016, Bawumia’s consistent and well-reasoned economic analyses enhanced the NPP’s image, making the party more attractive to Ghana’s professional and middle-class voters. He redefined political engagement by speaking not only to emotions but also to intellect, aspirations, and hope. For the first time in a long while, Ghanaians were listening to substance rather than slogans.

His vital role in the NPP’s 2016 victory cannot be overstated. As a running mate, he demonstrated skill and confidence, showing signs of a leader in the making who embodied the temperament of a 21st-century statesman. His foresight, discipline, and message of possibility gave the NPP a modern, progressive image that connected with all generations.

Indeed, the very brilliance that helped propel the party to power is now being used by some to question his record and credibility, a classic example of political irony. But whispers do not rewrite history; it is shaped by those who dare to stand firm when the nation needs leadership.

Dr. Bawumia has been tested by fire and refined through duty. His leadership represents continuity, innovation, and the courage to modernize Ghana’s political landscape. The NPP cannot afford to overlook the man who helped restore its credibility and broaden its national appeal.

Delegates, rise above sentiment. Choose competence. Choose innovation. Choose the man who has already proven he can deliver. Choose Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia — the future starts now.
