The current Executive Director of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Prof. Abdulai Jinapor, has brought the Commission to an unusual limelight.
By making the Commission the chaser of fake PhD holders, we can bet he has stepped on many toes in the ruling NDC, most, if not all, the culprits coming from that stable. Some are they who would frown upon hearing his name following his fake PhD chasing operations. Of course only culprits will be in this bracket.
It is amazing how the craze for such PhDs is persisting in the country. There is an obvious prestige about being addressed as 'Dr' so and so, hence the quest for the title especially those who want to join politics or the roll call of clergymen.
People should learn to do the right things. Those who want to wear that prestigious title should earn same by going through the prescribed work required for such titles.
It has been embarrassing for those who have been exposed after presenting themselves as PhD holders when they are not.
We are tempted to ask that the Prof. Jinapor turns his attention to the Masters and Bachelors categories. We are of the strong belief that many claim to hold these qualifications when they do not.
We have learnt about subtle manoeuvres to remove the man from office… through a transfer to another department or so. This way it won't look obvious that the ruling party is not happy about his brazenness.
Seeking an equalisation some hawks in the ruling party would have rather the opposition NPP too is exposed where possible. So far albeit no such big fish has been caught with a fake PhD festooned around their necks.
Last week there was a big joke about the former Vice President, D. Mahamudu Bawumia when a flyer was released to the effect that the GTEC had demanded proof of his PhD. No sooner had the fake flyer hit social media than the 'FAKE' inscription been slapped on it. The fake information died a natural death after triggering laughter even among followers of the NDC. What a country!!!
Dr. Bawumia's PhD thesis is now in the public domain for all to see. We recall a news report about Dr. Bawumia linking up with his excited professors when he touched base with his alma mater in the United Kingdom some years back.
Hassan Ayariga recently displayed what he sought to present as proof of his PhD on social media. It would be more appropriate if he proceeds to GTEC with proof of his qualification. As for the social media post it only prompted more questions about whether he too is part of the fakes.
