The Support Fund established for the children of the eight Ghanaians who died in the August 6 military helicopter crash has received significant contributions in less than a month.
In a statement dated August 19 and signed by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund, government announced that the account has so far accrued GHS2.3 million.
“The Fund has so far accrued a total of Two Million, Three Hundred and Fifteen Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS 2,315,000.00).
“Government expresses its gratitude to Stanbic Bank Ghana for an initial seed donation of GHS500,000.00, and to the following companies for their contributions to the Fund: Procus GH Limited, GB Foods Ghana, Sunda FM Manufacturing Ltd, Sage Distribution Ltd, Quantum Oil Terminals, Quantum LPG Logistics Ltd, Newgas Cylinder Ltd and Quantum Terminals PLC,” the statement read.
The statement further noted that donations may be made to the Fund through Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited (Stanbic Heights Branch, Accra) using the following accounts: Ghana Cedi (GHS) Account: 9040013628372 and US Dollar (USD) Account: 9040013628534.
Cheques and bank drafts should be made payable to: CHILDREN SUPPORT FUND 6825. A list of donors will be published weekly.
The Fund will cater for the education, healthcare, and welfare needs of the children, ensuring they are not deprived of the opportunities their late parents worked to secure.
Speaking at the interfaith burial service and state funeral at the Black Stars Square on Friday, August 15, President Mahama said the initiative will provide comprehensive support, including primary to tertiary education, technical training, medical insurance, and essential living expenses.
