Prof. Torgbi Damadzi IV, a renowned retired Professor at York University, Canada and a Traditional ruler has launched one of his books on the title; “Origin & Development of Chieftaincy among the Anlo-Ewe”.
This event took place on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Anloga-Dornorgbor in the Anloga District of the Volta Region.
This book displays both practical and theoretical knowledge on Chieftaincy, Culture and Traditions of the great people of Anlo-Ewes. Who are from the Southern part of the Volta Region of Ghana.
My quick skim through the book revealed great knowledge and research information (data) academically tapped from sources such as Prof. D. E. K. Amenume's book, The Ewe in Precolonial Times (1986), Mr. Charles M. K. Mamattah's scholarly work, Ewes of West Africa (1976), Sandra E. Greene's book, Sacred Sites and the Colonial Encounter: A History of Meaning and Memory in Ghana (2002), among others.
Also, as an Anlo man, who is very familiar with our oral literature, after glancing through the book, I can gladly pay tribute to Prof. Torgbi Damadzi IV. Because his information (data) from the sources of oral tradition are excellent, unadulterated and without any embellishment.
And I humbly guess these were bequeathed from the lineage of Awadzigla Kpotsui through to Dumega Hashinor Atsipose Amegago and many factual historical sources across Anlo State and beyond.
This book is a historical masterpiece put together by a Scholar and Researcher in Chieftaincy, Dance Ethnography, West Africa Performance Arts with broad interest in the field of Cultural studies, interdisciplinary music, dance, among others.
Prof. Torgbi Damadzi IV is a Professor with MFA and PhD from Simon Fraser University, Canada.
Acquiring a book written by someone of his caliber, is one of the greatest assets for individuals, families, Clans and Nations irrespective of your race or colour. And to students and scholars, this is the right book for you and your unborn generations.
The launching ceremony was chaired by Torgbiga Dutor Wenya III. And graced by Chiefs, Queens of Anlo and Dignitaries from home and abroad.

Congratulations to Prof. for this great work. But his team should work harder so that every family can have a copy. Because Anlo history was twisted in past by some people and must be corrected in our time. And please Mr. Atsyatsya, where can we get copies to buy?
