The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has inaugurated the Governing Board of the National Council on Persons with Disability (NCPD) and the Domestic Violence Management Board at a brief ceremony at the Ministry's Headquarters.

The Governing Board of the NCPD was constituted under Section 43 of the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715), while the Domestic Violence Management Board was inaugurated in line with the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732).

The NCPD Board is mandated to propose, promote, and implement policies that advance the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities, and to ensure their integration into all aspects of national development.

The Domestic Violence Board, on the other hand, is tasked with advising the Minister on policy matters related to domestic violence, coordinating relevant institutions, and supporting efforts towards prevention, protection, rehabilitation, and reintegration of victims.

Addressing the boards, the Minister underlined the critical role both Boards will play in strengthening the country’s social protection framework and urged the NCPD Board to champion the mainstreaming of disability issues across sectors, and to work towards breaking down barriers that hinder full participation and equal opportunities.

The minister called on the Domestic Violence Board to deepen public education, promote survivor-centered responses, and foster effective collaboration across state and non-state actors and charged the newly sworn-in members to serve with commitment, integrity, and a shared vision for an inclusive and just society.
