The Central North Regional Police Command has arrested three men suspected of carrying out a violent robbery on a gold dealer at Ntow-Krom near Sekyem in the Central Region.
According to a police statement, the suspects were apprehended on June 25 following a tip-off that three unidentified assailants had ambushed and robbed a gold trader. The attackers reportedly fired gunshots at the victim before escaping on a motorbike.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, a joint police operation involving officers from the Assin Foso Division and District Command set up a snap checkpoint at Assin Nyankumase, where the suspects were intercepted.
During the arrest, the suspects attempted to dispose of evidence by tossing a firearm into nearby bushes. However, a prompt and thorough search of the area led to the recovery of a pump-action shotgun, a used cartridge, a machete, and an additional pump-action gun hidden in their possession.
The victim, who sustained injuries during the attack, was rushed to a nearby medical facility and is currently receiving treatment.
The suspects remain in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities say they will be arraigned before court once preliminary inquiries are completed.
The arrest is being hailed as another breakthrough in the police’s effort to clamp down on violent crime and illegal firearms in the region.
