President John Dramani Mahama has announced the upcoming official launch of the Ghana Labour Export Programme, aimed at expanding job opportunities for Ghana’s youth by facilitating international employment.

Addressing residents in the Ahafo Region on Saturday, May 31, during his ongoing Thank You tour, President Mahama explained that the government is in advanced talks with several countries experiencing labour shortages. These partnerships would enable Ghanaian professionals to work abroad under fixed-term contracts.

“We will soon launch the Ghana Labour Export Programme. There are labour shortages in many countries across the world. We are negotiating with several of those countries to export some of our professionals to work on fixed-term contracts abroad,” he said.

The programme will target various sectors, including agriculture, construction, healthcare, hospitality, and logistics. It aims to provide opportunities for electricians, welders, mechanics, nurses, chefs, caterers, drivers, warehouse supervisors, and machine operators, among others.

President Mahama revealed that a contract has already been signed with one country to export 2,000 temporary workers. He emphasized that the selection process would be transparent and inclusive, offering equal chances to qualified applicants from all 16 regions of Ghana, including the Ahafo Region.

“A contract has been signed with one country for the export of 2000 temporary workers. Young qualified people will be selected fairly from all the 16 regions of our country, including Ahafo,” he stated.

A way to hell is paved with good intentions How many have you spent a dime to train? India trains and exports labour. Have we failed to create employment for our youths? Let's tell them that we have failed you but have this alternative for you (to be said quietly). I have hated pastors who have been praying for people to get visas to travel abroad to be "enslaved". Why can't they fast and pray for Ghana to be well for her future fathers and mothers to live in their country? What...
