Interior Minister warns against encroachment on security lands, pledges support for fire service

Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has issued a strong warning against the sale and purchase of lands belonging to Ghana’s security services.

He urged individuals and organisations to desist from such activities and to respect the legal ownership and boundaries of these lands.

Speaking during a visit to the regional headquarters of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in Tamale, the Minister stressed the importance of preserving these lands for their intended security-related purposes.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to strengthening the GNFS, the Minister highlighted the retooling of the Service as a top priority. He noted that improving working conditions and operational capacity was essential to ensuring that the Service is fully equipped to meet national needs.

He also condemned recent attacks on fire service personnel and announced ongoing discussions with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide escorts for officers while on duty to ensure their safety.

In addition, he revealed that talks are underway with the National Insurance Commission to secure insurance packages for fire service personnel, enhancing their protection and welfare.

During the visit, the Regional Commander of the GNFS, ACFO II Franklin Masiku, outlined some of the key challenges facing the region, including inadequate office accommodation, limited resources, and logistical constraints. He praised the Minister for his hands-on approach and expressed confidence in the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of the Fire Service in order to better protect lives and property nationwide.
