Godfred Dame’s conduct in ambulance trial ‘unethical’; he must be held accountable – Martin Kpebu

Private legal expert Martin Kpebu has described the behavior of former Attorney General Godfred Dame during the Ambulance trial as clearly “unethical.”

In the trial, an audio recording admitted as evidence captured Dame seemingly trying to influence the testimony of Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the case.

A year later, Ghanaian citizen Daniel Kwame Ofosu-Appiah has officially lodged a complaint with the General Legal Council (GLC), accusing Godfred Yeboah Dame of professional misconduct connected to the Ambulance trial involving Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and others.

During an interview on TV3's KeyPoints on May 24, 2025, Kpebu stated that regardless of the GLC’s investigation outcome, Dame’s actions constitute a breach of professional ethics.

He emphasized that Godfred Dame must face public accountability for tarnishing the legal profession even before the GLC begins its inquiry.

“As a society, we were very clear at the time that Godfred Dame has breached the ethics of the profession. It doesn't even matter the outcome of the GLC's investigation into the matter, the fact remains that as citizens we are heard what Dame said in the tape and it was unethical. GLC can say otherwise.

“This is not a case we can say we will wait for the GLC decision. We must hold him accountable in the court of public opinion before the GLC investigate because this matter had embarrassed us,” Kpebu stated.

In his petition, Ofosu-Appiah urges the GLC’s Disciplinary Committee to consider sanctions ranging from suspension to removal from the roll of lawyers, highlighting the urgency of the case and its importance to maintaining public trust in Ghana’s justice system.
