Road users along the Atomic-Kwabenya Highway in Accra will experience a temporary diversion on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, as the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) begins a tree maintenance exercise.
In an official notice dated May 19, GAEC announced that it had secured approval from the Executive Director of the Forest Services Division to cut down eight mahogany trees and six Leucaena trees, and prune 43 other mahogany trees along both sides of the stretch.
The exercise, according to the Commission, is scheduled to take place between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and will be undertaken in collaboration with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and other stakeholders.
“The Commission with support from the Electricity Company of Ghana and other stakeholders has planned to carry out the exercise on Tuesday, 20th May, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.,” the notice read.
To manage traffic and ensure the safety of road users, the Ghana Police Service will be deployed to assist with road traffic control during the period of the operation.
“In view of the above, the Ghana Police will provide assistance with respect to road traffic control on the said date,” the Commission added.
The GAEC also urged the public, especially motorists and commuters who use the route regularly, to cooperate with the team during the exercise.
