The Bielefeld branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Germany Dachverband e.V. held a vibrant victory celebration and strategic forum on Saturday, May 10, 2025, to mark the party’s resounding success in Ghana’s 2024 general elections.

Under the theme “Good Governance, Transparency and Accountability: The Role of the Diaspora,” the event brought together NDC supporters from across Germany and other parts of Europe.

Set against a backdrop of patriotic music and party colors, the occasion went beyond festivity — it was a clear affirmation of the diaspora’s growing role in Ghana’s political and developmental landscape.

Diaspora: A Driving Force in Democratic Success

Opening the event, Mr. Thomas Nutakor, Chairman of the NDC Bielefeld Branch, lauded members for their unwavering commitment throughout the election period.

“This victory is the result of our unity and belief in the NDC’s vision for a prosperous Ghana,” he said. “The diaspora has proven that we are not mere spectators but active stakeholders in the democratic journey of our nation.”

From Influence to Action: The Diaspora’s Policy Role

Delivering the keynote address, Miss Exonam Dhavens, popularly known as Yaa Asantewaa and a passionate advocate for governance reform, stressed the importance of shared responsibility between leaders and citizens—both at home and abroad.

“We must hold leadership accountable, not just through words, but by leveraging our resources, networks, and expertise,” she said.

Yaa Asantewaa called on the Government of Ghana to pursue strategic trade agreements with Germany and other EU nations, advocating for reduced tariffs on Ghanaian food exports. She argued that such partnerships would boost agribusiness, strengthen cultural ties, and enhance economic resilience.

“This Is Just the Beginning”

Dr. Jerome Kpan, a veteran figure within the NDC, commended the Bielefeld branch for its financial and logistical support during the campaign.

“This triumph belongs to all of us,” he declared. “But it’s only the beginning. The task ahead is to support implementation, promote transparent governance, and deepen diaspora–homeland collaboration.”

He called on members to shift their focus from celebration to action, urging sustained efforts to protect democratic gains and advance national development.

A Unified Front, A Renewed Commitment
Also present at the event were Alhaji Umar Mahmoud, Vice Chairman of the NDC Germany Chapter, Bashiru Abdulai, Chapter Deputy Youth Organizer, and several Bielefeld branch executives. Their attendance reinforced the party’s unity and shared resolve to engage the diaspora as a key development partner.

The NDC Bielefeld branch reaffirmed its support for the party’s new government and its agenda, which centers on inclusivity, accountability, and investment in people. With a strengthened diaspora network, the branch signaled its readiness to help drive Ghana’s governance and development goals forward.
