The Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim, has asserted that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) lacks the moral authority to comment on the recent controversy involving Sammy Gyamfi and the so-called "dollar saga."

The NPP has called on President John Dramani Mahama to dismiss the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, following the circulation of a viral video in which Gyamfi is seen handing US dollars to a repentant priest, Evangelist Patricia Asiedu Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

According to the NPP, if the President is serious about fighting corruption, then Gyamfi—who also serves as the National Communications Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC)—should not remain in office.

Reacting to the call in an interview on Accra-based Hot 93.9 FM's Hot Morning Drive show, hosted by Don Kwabena Prah, Shamima Muslim dismissed the NPP’s demand, arguing that the party is in no position to lecture anyone on morality.

According to her, "Yesterday, they had a press conference telling the president to sack Sammy Gyamfi.. NPP, we have not forgotten...Cecilia Dapaah...they didn't have anything to say about Cecilia Dapaah... One million dollars, three hundred thousand euros... no one is saying don't hold dollars."

She continued, "But it is questionable to see a minister of state have one million dollars in her home without any viable explanation at a time when they were the same people saying the cedi is depreciating and advising people to keep their money in their accounts."

"So if today the NPP is in opposition, you can see clearly that they do not have the moral authority to tell the President to sack Sammy Gyamfi," she added.

Shamima Muslim also urged the NPP to reflect on the reasons behind their resounding defeat in the 2024 general elections, rather than focusing on demands for Gyamfi's dismissal.

Did you remember what Justice Sem Sre said on Newsfile when Madam Cecilia Dapaah's issue broke out? Justice Sem Sre was heard quoting extensively from the 1992 constitution to support the Bank of Ghana's Act which prohibits hoarding foreign money or using it as a source of payment in Ghana? What has changed in respect to Sammy Gyamfi's issue? ...

Do you support the GH¢1 fuel levy imposed by government to address the electricity challenges?
