President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his government’s commitment to creating a safe, enabling, and thriving environment for the Ghanaian media.
The President, however, urged journalists to continue upholding integrity and professionalism to safeguard the country’s democracy and amplify the voices of the vulnerable.
His remarks come as Ghana joined the world to commemorate World Press Freedom Day on Saturday, May 3, in honour of journalists across the globe.
“The government will continue to work towards a free and thriving media space in Ghana,” Mr. Mahama stated.
“Let’s work together to enhance our democracy through truth, accuracy, and ethical reporting, ensuring a free and responsible press that empowers citizens and strengthens our nation,” he added.
The President further noted: “I join the people of Ghana in celebrating the vital role played by the Ghanaian media in stabilising our democracy. From holding our leadership accountable to amplifying the voices of our citizens, your work is indispensable.
“I commend the dedication and resilience of our journalists and media professionals. Continue to uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity, foster informed public discourse, and contribute to a stronger, more vibrant Ghana.”
