As part of ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure in Akatsi South, Member of Parliament and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, has cut sod for the construction of two new three-unit classroom blocks with offices at Alorkpa and Glikpome.
The ceremonies, held on May Day, brought together local dignitaries, community members, and officials from the Akatsi South Education Directorate.
In Alorkpa, Hon. Ahiafor was accompanied by the newly confirmed Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Daniel Dagba, executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency, and the Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Karim Ayaana Umar. Chiefs, elders, and residents turned out in large numbers, expressing deep gratitude to the MP and MCE for their continued commitment to the area’s development, particularly in the education sector.
During the ceremony, community leaders commended Hon. Ahiafor’s consistent support and took the opportunity to appeal for assistance in completing the community’s stalled electrification project. In response, Hon. Ahiafor directed the contractor, Mr. Asanka, to return to the site immediately and resume work.
Later in the day, a similar sod-cutting ceremony was held at Glikpome, where another three-unit classroom block and office will be constructed. Addressing the community, Hon. Daniel Dagba emphasized the importance of maintaining public infrastructure, encouraging residents to take ownership of the new facilities once completed.
The two projects are expected to ease classroom congestion and enhance teaching and learning conditions in both communities. They form part of Hon. Ahiafor’s broader strategy to boost education and expand social infrastructure throughout the Akatsi South Constituency.
In a statement issued by Mr. Isaac Kofi Ativor, Communications Officer for the Akatsi South NDC, the ceremonies were described as a reaffirmation of the MP’s commitment to comprehensive development and his determination to deliver practical, people-centered projects to his constituents.
