A 20-member delegation of lecturers from various higher education institutions across Africa is currently in Nitra, Slovakia, participating in a one-week training workshop on digital marketing.
The initiative is being led by Professor Yarhands Dissou Arthur of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) in Ghana, who is the project coordinator.
The delegation includes six lecturers from AAMUSTED, seven from Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU), and seven from Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU).
Co-funded by the European Union, the training falls under the project titled Towards Digital Marketing in Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Ghana. It is designed to equip lecturers with up-to-date skills in digital marketing to enhance teaching and learning in the TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) sector.
According to Prof. Arthur, the initiative is part of a broader effort to integrate digital marketing into Ghana’s TVET system. "The training workshop is expected to have a positive impact on the lecturers and their institutions, enabling them to stay abreast of the latest developments in digital marketing," he told Kwabena Danso-Dapaah.
He further emphasized the importance of tailoring future digital skills to Ghana’s unique educational context. He noted that aligning these competencies with local realities will help fulfill the project’s objectives.
A key component of the project is the co-creation of DIGIMARKT, a platform that will improve the skills of teachers, trainers, and mentors in the use of innovative tools, online pedagogies, and cutting-edge digital technologies.
The training also aims to empower young people by equipping them with digital transformation tools and practical knowledge that enhances technical and vocational education outcomes.
To ensure long-term sustainability and accessibility, the DIGIMARKT approach will be made publicly available for institutions and organizations interested in strengthening their TVET capacity. Additionally, an online micro-learning unit on DIGIMARKT will be launched in English to reach a wider audience of learners and professionals.
