Doctors’ strike: ‘Management is weak’ – Dagbon envoy criticises TTH leadership

Dr. Jacob Mahama, Zangbalun Lana and leader of the mediation team dispatched by the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, has blamed the management of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) for the recent strike by doctors, stating that the situation could have been avoided with adequate resource provision.

His remarks come after doctors at TTH resumed emergency services following a successful intervention by a high-powered delegation from the Dagbon palace.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, April 25, Dr. Mahama stressed that the strike was rooted in the hospital management's failure to provide doctors with essential tools and supplies.

“Everything is management. If you get them the right tools, I don’t think there will be a lot of grievances from the doctors. They need the tools and supplies to work with, and that is what they need to get for them,” he stated.

He further pointed out that the lack of resources not only hampered the doctors' ability to perform their duties but also led to frustration due to mistreatment from patients, which he said stemmed from the hospital's shortcomings.

“It is up to the management. That management is weak. If they were doing their work well, we wouldn’t have had this issue. Why are the other teaching hospitals not complaining?” he questioned.

Dr. Mahama’s comments reflect growing concerns over the operational challenges at TTH and underscore the need for improved leadership and logistics to prevent future disruptions.
