Interior Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak has called on the police to use all available evidence to bring those responsible for violence during the 2024 general elections to justice.

He commended the police for their professionalism throughout the electoral process and assured them of his full support in prosecuting offenders.

“I must commend the police administration once more. For the first time, no single shot was fired from the police in this election. All the skirmishes that we had were coming from others, not the police,” he stated.

He emphasized that law enforcement must take decisive action against those involved in election-related violence. “It shows the professionalism in the Police Service, and I hope that all those who misbehaved in one polling station or the other, with the videos that you have, I, as your sector minister, am going to support you to ensure all the perpetrators are brought to book,” he stressed.

Speaking during a meeting with police officers in the Ashanti Region, the Minister acknowledged the challenges facing the service and pledged to improve their working conditions. “I have been told about the challenge of vehicles, accommodation, medical facilities, and so many other things. I don’t intend to perform magic, that I’ll come and see you today and then by tomorrow, all these problems will be over,” he said.

He reassured the officers of his commitment to addressing their concerns. “No, but I can assure you that I have your back, and I will work seriously to make sure most of these problems are resolved,” he added.

The Minister’s remarks reinforced the government’s commitment to strengthening the police service and ensuring justice for victims of election-related violence.
