Agortime Ziope: Assembly members confirms former constituency chairman as new DCE

The Agortime Ziope District Assembly has unanimously confirmed Hon. Alfred Odikro Eklu as the new District Chief Executive (DCE).

This decision was made with a total of 22 votes in favor, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Before Hon. Eklu's approval, the district had sworn in seven government appointees to join the elected assembly members. This swearing-in ceremony took place prior to his confirmation as DCE.

In his remarks, the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, urged the assembly members to endorse Hon. Eklu, emphasizing that the president had fulfilled his constitutional duty by nominating him. He called on the members to also exercise their mandates in voting.

Hon. Gunu reminded the members that their salaries, amounting to Ghc1,300 each, had already been included in the 2025 budget, underscoring the importance of their roles in the Assembly.

Earlier, the Akatsi North District had given a 100% endorsement to their candidate, setting a positive precedent for the Agortime Ziope District. Hon. Gunu encouraged the members to emulate the Akatsi North members, who had already taken the lead.

Hon. Eklu's confirmation as DCE is expected to facilitate the district's development. With a wealth of experience from serving as the NDC constituency chairman for 12 years prior to his nomination, he is well-prepared to guide the district toward growth and improvement.

Hon. Charles Agbeve, the Member of Parliament for the area, also advocated for the endorsement of Hon. Eklu. Under his leadership, the district is anticipated to experience significant progress.

The Agortime Ziope District is one of the 18 districts in the Volta Region of Ghana, primarily consisting of farmers and traders. Hon. Eklu has committed to working diligently for the area's development, appreciating the efforts of the Member of Parliament and vowing to live up to expectations.
