The chiefs and elders of Asuofuo-Achiase in the Atwima-Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region have performed rituals to appease the local deities following a disturbing incident in which a swarm of bees terrorized residents.
Dozens of people suffered attacks and required hospitalization. During a recent visit to the community, it was revealed that the bees had been attacking residents for over three days, forcing many to stay indoors and disrupting daily life.
Nana Antwi Adjei III, the Chief of Achiase, stated during the rituals on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, that they suspect the attacks were a form of retribution for wrongdoing against the gods. This belief arose after a resident burned an ancient sycamore tree (Achee), which was thought to offer spiritual protection to the community.
The destruction of the sacred tree has instilled deep fear among residents. Nana Antwi Adjei III assured the community that local leaders would continue performing the necessary rituals to avert any misfortunes and restore peace to the area.
