Daniel Owusu Koranteng, a former colleague and friend of slain journalist Ahmed Suale, has been remanded into custody by the Madina District Court.
Koranteng, also known as Nana or Amakye, is a 35-year-old businessman facing charges of murder.
According to the prosecution, Koranteng is accused of causing the death of Ahmed Suale at Madina on January 16, 2019, through unlawful harm.
Despite having legal representation, the court has deferred taking his plea. He is scheduled to reappear on April 1, 2025.
Prosecution’s Case
The prosecution stated that the petitioner (name withheld) is a relative of Ahmed Suale, while the accused, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, was the Managing Director of ISPY Company.
Both Suale and Koranteng were previously employees of Tiger Eye P.I., the investigative firm led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The prosecution detailed that Koranteng had multiple interactions with Suale and his family before his murder.
However, tensions escalated in June 2018, when Kennedy Agyapong, owner of Net2TV, publicly broadcasted images of Ahmed Suale, calling for retribution against the journalist.
Prosecutors claim that Suale later identified Koranteng as the person who provided Mr. Agyapong with his photographs.
On January 16, 2019, following the release of Suale’s images, he was shot and killed in Madina.
Key Evidence Against the Accused
Court proceedings revealed that call records placed Koranteng near Suale’s residence in Madina before and at the time of the murder.
Further analysis showed that later that same day, Koranteng traveled from Madina to Amasaman, where he resides, arriving at approximately 11:15 PM.
During the investigation, police made multiple attempts to invite Koranteng for questioning, but he declined. In August 2019, he fled to the United Kingdom.
Koranteng later returned to Ghana, and based on intelligence, he was arrested in Amasaman on March 15, 2025.
Accused’s Response
During questioning, Koranteng admitted to knowing Ahmed Suale, visiting Kennedy Agyapong, and taking photographs with Suale. However, he denied selling the images to anyone.
The police investigation is ongoing to identify other potential suspects in the case.
