Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance, says the 2025 budget will be one of the best and most credible in Ghana’s history.
He urged the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to exercise patience and allow him time until the end of the year to demonstrate the budget’s effectiveness.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based TV3 on Friday, March 14, Dr. Ato Forson stated, “This is my first budget. Let’s see how the year ends and judge me. You’ll know that the 2025 budget will be one of the most credible budgets in the history of the Republic of Ghana because we promised and delivered.”
Meanwhile, the Finance Minister argued that the economic growth recorded in the last quarter of the NPP government was largely driven by illegal mining (galamsey) proceeds, which he said was not a sustainable basis for growth.
He claimed that the NPP’s economic projections from the previous year were based on galamsey proceeds, which, in his view, should not be applauded.
Dr. Forson further stated that the Akufo-Addo administration did not fully appreciate the harm they had caused the Ghanaian people.
He said he expected them to apologize and show remorse for their actions.
He also criticized the NPP’s economic management, asserting that the party had a history of defaults and setting bad records.
According to him, no government in Ghana’s history had ever defaulted on domestic bond payments except the NPP government.
