The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has praised the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for swiftly fulfilling its campaign promises.
According to the Bawku Central Member of Parliament, the NDC ensured that the promises made in the lead-up to the 2024 elections were reflected in the 2025 budget.
In a social media post following the budget presentation by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Majority Leader said the budget caters to Ghanaians from all walks of life.
“I’m proud to say our government has delivered on its promises in record time. This 2025 budget benefits all, from Makola women to schoolchildren, and shifts our gold industry from galamsey to legitimate production,” he noted.
Mr. Ayariga further emphasized that the budget stabilizes the economy, creates jobs, and gives hope to Ghanaians—aligning with the NDC’s commitment to making Ghana a better place for all.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, he argued that the measures outlined in the budget, if successfully implemented, could significantly weaken the political effectiveness of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and diminish its chances of a comeback.
In the budget, the government announced plans to remove certain taxes it described as “nuisance,” including the controversial e-levy, betting tax, emissions tax, and COVID-19 tax, once the budget is approved.
According to Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the budget also includes increased funding for the free Senior High School policy and allocations for the No Fees, No Stress policy.
