Felix Kwakye Ofosu has criticized the previous NPP government for what he described as an excessively large administration.
Speaking to the media, he pointed out that under the NPP, the Office of the President had hundreds of political appointees, a situation he insists will not be repeated under President John Dramani Mahama.
“You can verify for yourself that in 2022, the NPP government had hundreds of political appointees working under the Office of the President,” he stated, attributing this to excessive government spending.
He assured that the Mahama administration will take a different approach, appointing only a reasonable number of presidential staffers and aides. “We can state emphatically that it will be nowhere near half of what the NPP did when they were in power,” he asserted.
Kwakye Ofosu also dismissed claims that Mahama’s government had secretly increased the number of ministers.
“The number of ministers appointed is 56. The Honorable Oppong Nkrumah has been part of the vetting process and knows this for a fact,” he said.
Emphasizing the economic benefits of a lean government, he explained how reducing ministerial appointments directly cuts down government expenditure.
“If you reduce the number of ministers, that is fewer Land Cruisers you have to buy. We all know how expensive they are,” he noted.
He reassured Ghanaians that Mahama’s government is committed to maintaining a small but effective administration, prioritizing development over unnecessary expenses.

Nobody is talking about the number of appointed ministers and deputies. Could you please come up with the list of Presidential staffers, directors of special functions and their deputies as mentioned by Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor ? Samuel submitted the list on the floor of Parliament, please go for it and come out with your defense.
