Tribute to Nana Asamoah Yeboah-Afari, an icon of Ghana’s hospitality industry, and Akwamuman advocate

This weekend, the Akwamu state in Ghana’s Eastern Region reaches the climax of mourning an illustrious compatriot who was also a pacesetter in Ghana’s hospitality industry, Nana Kwame Asamoah Yeboah-Afari.

Nana Asamoah Yeboah-Afari, Founder and Executive Director of the Royal Senchi Hotel and Resort, the first four-star luxury hotel in the region, who was also the Adantamhene of the Akwamuhene Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, died on October 28, 2024, after a short illness. He was 62. (As ‘Adantamhene’, his role was similar to that of a Foreign Affairs Minister.)

Funeral details:

  • Venue: Bogyawe Palace, Akwamufie
  • Lying-in-state: Friday, March 7 and Saturday March 8, 2025; followed by private burial.
  • Thanksgiving service: Sunday, March 9

A true icon of Ghana's hospitality industry, his tireless efforts to promote tourism and economic development in the Eastern Region earned him numerous accolades and international recognition.

As the Adantamhene of Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, Akwamuhene, Nana Asamoah demonstrated exceptional leadership, as well as commitment to community development. His initiatives helped to improve the lives of countless individuals and families, fostering a sense of pride and unity among community members.

He was a founding member of the Akwamu Advocacy Group, made up of well-meaning citizens of Akwamu, whose aim, among other things, is to promote and advocate for the rights and interests of the Akwamu people.

Nana Asamoah’s legacy extends far beyond his impressive achievements. He has inspired a generation of entrepreneurs, leaders, and community developers to strive for excellence and make a positive impact on their communities.

We pay tribute to Nana Yeboah-Afari's selflessness, dedication, and perseverance. His unwavering commitment to the well-being of others serves as a shining example to us all.

We celebrate Nana Asamoah’s numerous achievements, including:

  1. Establishing the Royal Senchi Hotel and Resort, at Senchi-Akwamu, a world-class resort that showcases Ghana's rich cultural heritage and natural attractions.
  2. Promoting community development: Initiatives that he spearheaded, have improved education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for community members.
  3. Preserving cultural heritage: Efforts to preserve and promote Ghana's cultural heritage, including traditional arts and crafts at the Bogyawe Palace and the Akwamu Gorge Conservation Trust.

We will honour Nana Asamoah’s legacy by continuing to promote the values of the Akwamu community development, cultural preservation, and excellence that he embodied.
