An open letter to the President: Reconsidering the Council of State: A Plea for Clergy Inclusion

As I reflect on the recent inauguration of the Council of State, I am compelled to express my deep concern about the omission of clergy members from this esteemed body. As a nation, we have always recognized the vital role that religious leaders play in our national development and growth. It is in this spirit that I write to urge you, Mr. President, to reconsider the membership of the Council of State and include representatives from the clergy.

Background
The Council of State is a constitutional body established under Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. The Council is composed of prominent citizens who advise the President on national issues. The membership of the Council includes a former Chief Justice, a former Chief of Defence Staff, a former Inspector-General of Police, and the President of the National House of Chiefs, among others.

On February 18, 2023, you inaugurated the 9th Council of State, marking an important milestone in your administration. However, a notable omission from the Council's membership has raised concerns among many Ghanaians - the absence of clergy members.

This omission is particularly surprising, given the significant role that religious leaders have played in Ghana's national development and growth. The clergy has consistently provided spiritual guidance, wisdom, and counsel to our leaders, and their contributions have been invaluable.

Dear President John Mahama,
I am writing to express my concern and disappointment regarding the omission of clergy members from your recently inaugurated Council of State. As a nation, we have always recognized the vital role that religious leaders play in our national development and growth.

The clergy has consistently provided spiritual guidance, wisdom, and counsel to our leaders, and their contributions have been invaluable. It is, therefore, surprising that they were not represented in the current Council of State membership.

I urge you to reconsider the membership of the Council of State and include representatives from the clergy. Their input and guidance would be invaluable in addressing the complex challenges facing our nation.

I hope that you will take my concerns seriously and take necessary steps to rectify this omission.
