Following the revocation of all public appointments made by the Nana Akufo-Addo government after 7th December 2024, Godwin Mawutor Wuankah, the Deputy Director of Events and Programs for the Volta Regional Youth Wing of the NPP, has urged former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to step in and support Ghanaian youths affected by these dismissals.
Wuankah believes that many young people have been left in a state of uncertainty and financial distress due to the abrupt policy changes.
Wuankah proposed a comprehensive support package for the affected individuals. He explained that “providing seed capital of GHS 20,000 each, with entrepreneurship training, and mentorship initiatives would greatly benefit the dismissed individuals.” He stressed that this approach would empower these youths to overcome current challenges and transform their circumstances into opportunities for economic growth.
To further enhance the impact of this initiative, Wuankah suggested collaboration with international development organizations such as the Mastercard Foundation. He stated, “By working together, we can create a robust ecosystem that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation.” He also mentioned the strategic potential of establishing an NGO, such as the Bawumia Foundation, to provide business planning, proposal writing, and consultancy services, thereby facilitating the transition of these young people into successful entrepreneurs.
Highlighting the urgency of the matter, Wuankah warned, “The situation is dire, and immediate action is necessary. The current government's policies have left many youths feeling hopeless and desperate. Some may be contemplating extreme measures, such as suicide, due to the emotional and financial distress they are facing. Others may be struggling with debt, owing banks and other financial institutions, while their peers mock their misfortune.”
In conclusion, Wuankah appealed for swift action, stating, “It is essential that we act swiftly to provide support and relief to these affected youths. Dr. Bawumia's leadership and support would be instrumental in making this initiative a success. His vision for Ghana's youth, as outlined in his plan, includes investments in education, job creation, sports, creative arts, technology, and bold solutions to reduce the cost of living. By building on this vision, we can create a brighter future for Ghanaian youths and contribute to the country's economic prosperity.”
Wuankah’s call for support comes as part of a broader appeal for unity and proactive measures to ensure that the youth are not left behind in the wake of major governmental changes.
